Benefits for communities of shared ownership projects

Community energy enterprises of course undertake many projects on their own, but they can also gain substantial benefits from partnership projects with commercial developers.

Project scale

Commercial partners often have access to very large levels of funding which may enable communities to join in projects which would be too large for them to undertake on their own.

Expertise

Many commercial developers have undertaken dozens of projects - far more than most community energy groups.

They will have a substantial base of in-house expertise on aspects as diverse as system design, consenting, procurement, construction, financing, operation and maintenance. There is a lot which community groups can learn from this experience and then apply in their own projects.

Mutually beneficial partnership

Of course the commercial developer will also benefit from the partnership, as further described here. This section of the website gives further guidance on how to find suitable partners and to obtain the best outcome for your partner and yourselves.
